We date this lovely unusual chest to around 1963/4 and attribute the design to Val Rossi . It’s not in the 1962 catalogue we have , nor in the 1965 ones we have .Val Rossi was McIntosh’s chief designer from about 1960 until around 1964 when he joined Beithcraft . In the 1962 catalogue McIntosh showed a very boring bedroom range that comes up for sale quite often . In the 1965 catalogue and after there were no bedroom furniture being shown . This design and another couple of rarely seen ranges all seem to date from around 1963 .
The seagrass panels are an unusual feature as are the distinctive circular handles . The slightly concave front and rounded edge to the back are features that will have made this an expensive piece to produce which will have limited demand
