vintage E. Thomas & Williams kerosene brass Welsh miner's lamp Miners safety lamps were traditionally used to provide illumination in coal mines and were designed with an enclosed flame to operate in areas which may contain coal dust or gases. They also became a good way of measuring methane in the mine atmosphere, and detect the presence of noxious gas by a change in the color of its protected flame. The piece is nicely crafted of solid and heavy brass and copper marked on the front with maker's mark.Cc1930’s Wales
